The V Project offers the young people of Lewes (and surrounding areas) a safe place to come and discuss any questions or concerns that they are facing, with trained peer mentors; young people from the area who are also in their late teens and early 20's. This project will also host a range of activities throughout the year.
The V Project's weekly drop-in sessions are held at Zu Studios, in the Phoenix Industrial Estate, and run every Monday evening from 4 to 8pm, starting from the 24th September 2012.
The V Project offers a unique service in Lewes, giving young people a non-judgemental, sympathetic and informal environment where they can air issues with mentors they can immediately relate to.
The project deals with a range of issues that impact on young people, from alcohol and drug use, to school pressures such a bullying or wider concerns about relationship and/or peer group dynamics. The 12 trained peer mentors provide an outlet for young people to talk, and offer information and help getting professional support, if necessary.
The project is part of the Southwick-based As You Are Centre, a charity that provides counselling and support for people living with depression, stress and anxiety. Their experienced, extensively-trained counsellors will be on hand to support the peer mentors, and can give low cost, one-to-one, structured sessions.
The V Project was conceived by friends of a Lewes teenager, Vadim Yastrzhembsky, who died of an accidental methadone overdose on 7 June 2012, aged 19.

Great idea, at last we will have some kind of support for the youth of our town. I will be telling all of my friends, who I am sure will be more than happy to get involved!
