According to the media, Putin has been invading Ukraine 'next week' for a couple of months now. Today we hear that according to 'the White House' he has 70% of the forces deployed that he needs to invade in 'mid-February'. I'll be back in March.

Who do you think is sabre rattling here mark? No Russian election for a couple of years and Putin seems to be very popular with the Russian people anyway. It must occur to you basil that a Europe that is more closely politically and economically linked would be considerably more powerful against Russia. I guess we can dream can't we basil.

When I mentioned Sabre rattling, Nevillman. I was thinking more about Boris Johnson trying to emulate Maggie Thatcher proudly wearing her headscarf and clutching her handbag in the turret of a tank. To garner from votes from Daily Mail readers. Sending young men, Argentinian and British, off to die. She won the 1981 election with that photoshoot.

Thanks for clarifying mark. As I think there is no chance we will get involved, when Russia does go into Ukraine he may end up looking a bit stupid again.

Whilst reading around this subject, I came across the information that, since tha fall of the Soviet Union, Russia has invaded no, zero, naught countries. In the same period, the US has invaded or regime changed about 50, fifty, half a ton! I seem to remember that Ukraine was one of them. There's also the neo Nazi Ukrainian factor, with the Azov brigade who have a penchant for killing the Russian speaking people in the eastern part of the country who look to Russia to protect them. You bet those nutters will be up to their tricks, trying to bait the Russians to intervene, when they indulge in some gratuitous killing.

I am no fan of american imperialism, but if you are going to count as many as 50 for the US, then surely the Russian military interventions in Georgia, Chechnya, Ukraine/Crimea and Syria would also count. These occurred since the dissolution of the USSR. Its disingenuous to suggest Russia have not been belligerent since 1991, just as it would be to say America have been only a force for good.

The whole situation is highly complex and not as simple as america/nato bad vs russia good, or vice versa. Both sides hold some reasonable points of view in terms of security in the region as well as legacy agreements post cold war that are perceived to have been reneged on. Things change however, and the Ukraine isnt part of the Soviet Union anymore and Russia doesn't control them.

"Perceived to have been reneged on".How droll. They have been, and by "the West" as you know perfectly well. The US funnelled billions into the Maidan revolution as well and Germany was not too parsimonious. Now they've got cold feet, perhaps they really need that Russian gas and now that they've virtually suicided on energy policy, pragmatic heads are rising. What if Germany and Russia got too cosy and started trading NOT in dollars? Oops, that would upset the Anglo American empire strategy that's been going on for years. What's your perception?

Yes, nato expanded, but the Soviet Union no longer exists and Russia have no rights to determine the choices of former soviet or satellite/warsaw pact countries. They are a big bully nation though, especially with Putin at the helm. They have nukes and natural resources for their bargaining chips and want others to respect them and compromise.

Indeed, russia has no right whatsoever to decide what happens to other nations. Bearing in mind the wealth of it's natural resources that great bully Putin really fits the bill for an evil dictator. What right has he to be sitting on what is rightfully the property of the City of London and WallSt corporations? UK plc propaganda division congratulates you for your sterling support, I'm sure a job with the Retardian is not that far off and a Safe Pair of Hands of the Week award.

Its quite possible to hold a position where one is critical of both NATO and Russia. Think its obvious i am there. Putin is a gangster with fingers in many pies globally...he is potentially the richest man on earth and will use whatever means to protect and advance that, as well as endearing himself to the russian people by showing strength and claiming land that he feels belong to Russia, with NATO and the west portrayed as the bullies.

The diplomatic thing would be to put on hold any further nato expansion. Ukraine might not like it, but its better than a war.

Putin is a bully, and that is rather a kind assessment of him. He gets what he wants through fear and intimidation tactics. Demonising a demon seems a fair game to me. He is a plutocrat and authoritarian, and has acted maliciously in the past against his opponents, both domestic and abroad. For these reasons, we should be very wary and cynical. I'm cynical of many western governments, including our own, so it seems logical to also be wary of Putin. I'm sure the Skripals could tell us more about Putin, if they dared.

The Scripals would tell you exactly what you wanted to hear, that bloke's as bent as a hairpin; and one of T.May's to boot! The story's as full of holes as her hairnet. There's photos of hazmat suited boffins and normal uniformed bobbies in the same deadly places. The doctor who treated them on the street was the chief doctor of the British Army, who just happened to be passing! The place is just down the road from Porton Down. I don't remember much more but the affair was a coincidence theorist's jamboree. It compares unfavourably with an episode of 70's Dr. Who, the only thing missing was the daleks, with Putin playing Davros. Now I know why you need to think I believe in reptilians! Actually they were in Who, weren't they, I bet your friend icke had a day job pedaling a dalek.

In a way you did. The weed makes people blasé and inattentive to detail. If you're into sensations, the Skripal affair is meat and drink, sorry vegetables and drink. Cold sober you analyse the boring details and find small discrepancies and it falls apart. As a political identitarian the only recourse is making cheap jokes to insulate yourself from uncomfortable contradictions to your dogma.

That's another reason why i don't follow theories. A lot of stoners are very into the reptilian thing- mixing metaphors up with reality. A lot of them believe the anthropogenic warming theory, not having the patience to read previous academic theories about climate change and realising that their predictions are as wild and conjectural as the latest fantasies. Their theories are as cyclical as the climate but it's a living, I suppose.

The environmental edge is that Germany has made itself very vulnerable due to its closure of conventional power stations hence they are very dependent on Russian gas. This complicates things whereas our media is trying to make it seem simpler than it is.

But what about those poor Russian holiday makers in Salisbury, caught up in a conspiracy to heap on more anti-russia propaganda?? Two highly decorated GRU/KGB men, innocently taking a peaceful trip to see a famous cathedral, in the same city that a former Russian military defector happened to live in, and at the same time as that russian defector working for the british, was targeted, which resulted in the deaths of two others, and seriously injured its likely target.

Its lucky they got back to Russia in time, or they may have been questioned unfairly by British authorities about their movements. Not sure why they used fake passports for their holidays mind you, but spies be spies eh? Putin was right to shield these innocent heroes.

I bet the Russians killed Tupac.
