God I hate Chris Evans! Clarkson was a sort of maverick libertarian whereas he is a New Labour Lord Haw Haw conformist. Clarkson is a journalist and always good value. Chris Evans is a sort of leering Red Coat a smarmy ligger who might have been passable as children`s telly face but never gets above idiot level and has nothing to say but "ooo please like me ..."
Clarkson took and unregarded format and turned into the BBC`s biggest earner, Evans did nowt sits in the unlamented tradition of High Street MOR jumpers Noel Edmunds made his own.A gnat brained nobody whose existence makes all our lives that bit worse.
Turn Off Top Gear .
Whose with me ?

Excellently put PN.
Top Gear is Clarkson, Hammond and May - anything/body else and it will be a different programme.

Paul, that just proves you really do know very little. I'm not a mad fan of Chris Evans, but he has been creating, producing and presenting tv and radio shows for 20 years - hardly 'a smarmy ligger'. In terms of talent he has far more than Clarkson. Yes it will be a different programme, but maybe that's a good thing.

Well I like Chris Evans. The old format of TG has gone and this will be a completely new show. Give it a chance before you start slagging it off.

I daresay quite a few few men had "confused feelings " about teen pop chanteuse Billie Piper, but only Chris Evans acted on them.
So we have a crap DJ with form for very very young girls...well what could possibly go wrong with that ?

Frak, Clarkson & Boris are completely incompetent & utterly cr@p at what they try to do. Paul Newman? He's just a Tory leach trolling for a reaction. In my view Chris Evans is made for the job. He's a true fanatic when it comes down to motoring & whizzy fast cars..

I'm in the happy position of disliking both Evans and Clarkson. But I had to laugh at Paul Newman calling Clarkson a 'maverick libertarian'. A member of the Chipping Norton set alongside Cameron and Rebecca Brooks. My oh my, what a maverick, up their with the old Soviet dissidents in his courageous battle against the Establishment.

Clarkson and Hammond are a pair of loathsome, puerile pillocks imo but so is Evans. And Evans isn't even funny.
They should let James May continue with guest co-presenters, until they find a combination that works.
I like the idea of a woman presenter, but I'm not impressed with the suggestions. Suzi Perry was dire when she did MotoGP, I'm a big Clare Balding fan but I don't think she's right for the show and Jodie Kidd may at least know a bit about cars but is bit deficient in the personality department.
If only Sandi Toksvig knew about cars - she's comfortable with filth and innuendo and very funny.
