Yet another centuries-old irreplaceable Lewes landmark due to be destroyed, thanks to a paid jobsworth who has decided that fungus on a tree creates a 1 in 59 billion chance of a twig falling on somebody's shoe. The beech tree opposite that Albert what's-is-name's house in Grange Gardens. If risk to humans is so unacceptable, why do we allow any traffic on the streets? Is'nt this forum as dangerous as the beech tree?

The world's going PC crazy. Same here over the other side in NZ. Council cut down a 200 year old oak here 'just in case'. they also knock down 100 year old buildings "just in case an earthquake hits" hence no history. I love coming back to Lewes to see it's history and the likes of Grange Gardens. Hope they are'nt adopting the same cavalier tactics there as here.
