The travellers site at Southerham is going to be upgraded to a super-site.
Will they need to buy residents parking permits?

I had my quad bikes stolen the other day by Travellers, and its bloody annoying when the coppers wont do anything to get them back because they have not got a camp liason officer available to go on site,it makes my blood boil.if we stole anything we would be banged up.

Personally I welcome the cultural diversity the travellers bring to the area, with their colourful ethnic dress and their innovative cuisine, not to mention the history embodied by the caravans passed down the generations.
Maybe the Long Room should host a traveller fest weekender.

thats the thing i love about lewes....such a welcoming town..............friendly residents always willing to except newcomers........NOT
the travellers turn up here and are met by a load of smalltown biggotry and prejudice fuelled by the sussex express etc. and then we all act surprised when tensions flare up!
Imagine for a moment turning up in a town and being treated with suspicion just for the lifestyle u choose to lead.
The vast majority of travellers i've met have been really decent human beings (and the majority of car theives i've met have lived in houses).Of course u get individuals who are out to make trouble just as you do in the population as a whole, but no more so.
Walking around Lewes on an average fiday night and its not travellers I see causing trouble.
Leading a travelling lifestyle is one of the most natural things we can do and in many parts of the world is the norm. With our current housing crises we should encourage practical sollutions such as traveling.Shurely it puts less pressure on the local community to welcome a few passing guests than to have yet more people moving to lewes and requiring housing etc.
I dont mean to rant but it would be so nice to see a little more understanding and acceptance of a different way of life, maybe both sides could gain from this.

You dont see travellers on a friday night in town cause they are on farmers property stealing there equipment and there land rovers, for which they have worked b****y hard for, most are up at 3am and dont finish work untill well into the evening, then all there hard is rewarded by these so called decent people who come and take there stuff.Do you know what really hurts,is when you know who has taken your stuff and so do the police yet they wont go on to campsite cause the camp liason officer is not available, and by the time they are available your stuff has been moved on or striped down. These are the people who claim thousands in benefits, yet can pay 80 thousand in cash for a plot of land and dont think twice about ripping the public off.Why dont u have them on your land and when things go missing we can come and sort u out.If they are called travellers or gypsies then they should do what they are supposed to do and travel. Why dont u become a farmer and maybe you will understand what i mean,or speak to an elderly person who has been charged 30 thousand for a new driveway. You r a pathetic little person who does not know what they are on about, when u have had the pleasure of experiancing these low lives and how they can ruin your buisiness and your live then maybe u will think again befor u call them DECENT.
