Town Hall as a venue

I see that the Operatic Society have another performance coming up. These are always great and I look forward to them. My complaint is about the Town Hall. The seats are impossibly uncomfortable. They are also much too close together meaning that I have to sit with my buttocks up against a complete stranger's buttocks and no room to stretch out legs. These might have been acceptable in the olden days but these days I expect more comfort. Can they not find a better venue or can the Town Hall invest in better seats. Surely Lewes should have a decent venue where you are not having to look up to the stage through a sea of heads. The venue just does not match the quality of the performance.

Although not involved in the current production (Sandy Wilson's, The Boyfriend) I remember the Director saying in the initial read through that the seat layout will be a banked arena this time. Possibly a first for LOS. So you would be looking down onto a central acting space and not a traditional theatre layout. The only other large venue I can think of is the Leisure Centre, but I'm sure the Badminton Hall would have shocking acoustics.

St. John sub castro is the largest venue in Lewes, has this ever been considered?

Love the open invitation! It's great to see a space where people can freely share their thoughts. Looking forward to hearing... more
