Council tax to rise 4.99% with services being cut.

Interested to see what any Tory voters have to say about this?

For the last year we have had a Consumer boom designed to disguise the bad ness that came with Brexit until after article 50 .Carney cancelled normalising interest rates and the government dropped Osbourne’s already moderate plans for retrenchment entirely and shifted the limit for borrowing up to 90% form the already vertiginous 80%
We are at end of the line for borrowing. Investment confidence has never recovered and as we see form Vauxhall, real economic blows are starting to land. Growth is already under the curve and the fact it is not as bad as it might have been now is really not that important
We are now not only facing cuts by stealth ( and soon less stealthy) but taxes are growing fast , see business rates/ look out for the big Council tax rise ( the blame is always shoved down the line.)
The structural deficit was going to be horribly tough to correct at best but with Brexit poisoning growth, and economic planning used for short term political ends, it is much worse than it needed to be
This is what ardent Brexiteer Paul Goodman said on Conservative Home
……the coming Brexit mean that this is not the time for a big cut in the rate of public spending. But we cannot travel for much longer down the path we are treading: the tax burden is due to reach its highest level for 30 years…….
This is what moderate centrist Andrew Rawnsley had to say
…..senior Tory confided his anxiety that public disorder could break out in the next 24 months, …….More and deeper spending cuts …..rising taxes. ….crunch on living standards……..I now think it not at all unreasonable to worry that there will be blood on the streets.
How one will ever forgive the people who lied and whipped up anti-immigrant hysteria I do not know. .

I think this has more to do with the Tory austerity agenda than Brexit.
More and more local government spending comes from local government's own taxation rather than the government grant, while cuts in other areas, like the abolition of the community care grant and council tax benefit, has moved what was central government spending onto councils.
With increasing longevity adding inexorably to the cost of providing social care, no-one should be surprised by the looming black hole in local government finances.
Still, at least we're all in it together.

ACT, I absolutely agree. It's just sad that the intervening trolls (or perhaps they're bots) don't see that they are eating away at their own well being. We are being conned by a right wing govt. governed by big business and greed. These are perilous times.

I can't believe we've got this far in the thread without anyone mentioning the missing "N" in the second word of the thread title.

Need it having heard that the local social services (already underfunded and under strain) will pick up the slack from the hospital cuts. Last weeks line was that the poor social services were causing hospital problems?!
Solution, cut them both :/
