Does not wanting the government to take in any more refugees into this country make me a 'bad' person and does it make all those who wish to take these people in 'good' people?

What do you think you are? I don't think it's about being good or bad. More about what our human values are and what we think our government can and can't do to represent our values and ensure a good standard of living for all of us, and perhaps beyond our own government to global organisations such as the U.N. It's worth thinking how we would feel if we were in a migrant's situation, and what level of support we give to what type of migrant (asylum seeker, refugee, economic migrant etc).
Are you a good or bad person. I don't know, but I don't feel happy knowing that people are dying like this and being exploited in countries like Sicily etc., and I imagine you don't feel happy knowing that kids are drowning etc., either?

to ben, Sicily isn't a country, it's an island, a region of Italy. I wouldn't say that they are being exploited there, for over a year there has been mass migration from Libya to Sicily or the even smaller island of lampedusa, and the the Italians in a mission called Mare Nostrum have been saving the lives of thousands of migrants/refugees in perilous situations off the coasts. When the mare nostrum mission was axed and the europeans took over as a group the funding was cut to a 1/3 if what the Italians were putting in, unsurprisingly more people were dying in the Mediterranean sea. That's all.
