"Tiping"

When i visit restaurants i find it almost an insult that they include tip's in the bill, this is because surely the choice to tip is entirely up to the customer!
This is exactly what happens in REAL pubs not the ones that have now turned into restaurants.
Surely the choice to tip is entirely the customers choice and i feel that when i go to a pub the service is miles better than any restaurant as the staff make you feel welcome and will have a conversation with you.
Where as you go to a restaurant you arent spoken to except for welcome, drinks, meal, enjoy you food, bill. and it takes about 5 attempts to get the bill.
Where as in a pub you can get the bill on demand and they don't demand a tip. I tip in pubs because of this reason and also because the service in my opinion is miles better.
The only restaurant in town that i will tip in is the Spice Merchant and that is because they are the only place with a decent bunch of staff who will ensure it is a perfect visit eveytime.
The likes of the ASK, Shanaz, Dilraj and the chinese aren't worthy of 5 pence.

don't use the others but how wrong you are about the Shanaz EXCELLENT friendly staff- knowledgeable of menu and how to chat without being in your face - and indeed wrong about the Spice Merchant - NEVER have I been so rushed in a restaurant desperate to get me out, my money in and the next cash-wad sorry customer through the door - like a sponsored eat in - how quick can you serve the courses - INCLUDING hovering to take the plate as soon as the lost morsel is taken - poor poor poor

I also hate it when places add a service charge - it should be up to you if you want to tip. Actually I hate the whole culture of 'tipping' - Restaurants etc should pay their staff enough without the need for tips. Eating out is generally expensive and then to be expected to add 10% to 15% on top is ridiculous really. You don't tip the checkout people in Tesco's or at the chippy for their friendly service do you.

ask them to remove the tip from the bill and if you think they are worthy of a tip then give it to the waiter if not worthy then dont tip
