Are my 33 thumbs downs because I am thinking of moving to Lewes? Or because of what I witnessed?

The reason for so many thumbs down is probably because the local people are fed up of people moving into the town and trying to take over.
What you witnessed is on the increase in the town, probably b/c they are outsiders too.

I also got 10 thumbs up.
Does this mean 10 people would welcome my move to Lewes? 10 friends is good enough for me. Or does it mean 10 people support me messaging on this forum about what I witnessed?
Not quite sure how the thumbs up/down rule works.
Guess I'll find out when I frequent this forum more regularly! Just had an offer accepted on a house! Decided not to let the incident put us off, friends who moved here said they've never witnessed anything like that in Lewes. Must've been a one off they said. They explained it was probably youths from other towns.
Great.
Lewes here we come! Woo hoo!!!

BTW do you expect there to be only internal movement within the town? I.e. people living in houses in Lewes moving to different houses in Lewes? With no newcomers moving in? That's a crazy idea!

There's a lot of talk about being a troll on here. Weird.
I'm not sensitive to getting thumbs down, just wondering why, that's all.

@Visitor, this is a forum where the discussions can and do frequently become waspish and rather spikey. And you can register your name saving someone else pilfering it (as you can see above). Good luck and don't worry about the thumbs!

It's a nice place (to visit), but it's not great to live in, everything in Lewes is high hassle and expensive compared to other local towns (I've never had to be a witness in court before, 5 years in Lewes and I was asked 3 times).
If you enjoy paying a premium to say "you live in Lewes", it's probably worth not being able to get in and out during rush hour and not being able to park. If you're just moving here as it's "roughly the right location" I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Pay no attention, Visitor. It's established fact on this Forum that Deja Vu talks utter rubbish at all times. He's apparently terribly proud of his decision to move to Hailsham... Words fail me... A town centre with two superstores on a one way system, 30 sleazy takeaways and another 30 charity shops.

I guess the latter . One way system - like Lewes. Hyperbole re: the number of takeaways and charity shops. Get over yourself. I would encourage Visitor, who has already bought their Lewes house, to visit Hailsham and park for free. The whole of East Sussex is being gentrified/built on and has been for decades. I have lived here for all my 65 years and known Uckfield, Lewes, East Hoathly, Hailsham, Alfriston,Buxted. DFL's will forever migrate to East Sussex.

It's all an extension of the immigration thing. How dare anybody want to move into my country/county/town/street! You are free to move wherever you like in the country. Lewes is a nice town, but has its share of under-educated losers like most reasonable sized towns.

@ Mark, 3 super markets, Tesco, Asda and Waitrose, get it right. You also forget to mention the larger house and the lower cost and it's also a lot nicer than where I was in Lewes, for example I can now park and the street isn't lined with litter.

Because you sound like a complete snob. I hope you don't move to Lewes. The local secondary school caters for everyone in the community and if you are worried about a few teenagers dressed in a way you don't like then you definitely won't like Priory.

@@Visitor - I think people have a right to object to incomers/migrants if the number is starting to have a serious impact on their quality of life, rather than from simple bigotry. Freedom of movement all too often means that where people live becomes dictated to by money rather than community. Those who have the money can live where they please and the locals become priced out of their home town. Those who don't have enough money (or work) are forced to leave friends and family behind them. Is it right that a child who is born in Lewes probably won't be able to afford to stay here? The answer is surely to address the main cause - the cost and quality of living on London. If people in Stoke Newington could afford to buy houses there and also enjoyed cleaner air and safer streets, they might feel less compelled to leave London and push the house prices up elsewhere.
