Things I like about Lewes

In no particular order:
I like it that old people feel safe enough to stagger around the town after dark.
I like that even most of the chavs are fairly reasonable(ish) people - a fairly low stupid necklace count, thank goodness
The pubs and Harveys
The spirit of not taking any crap from governance
Local accountability - if you work on my house and cock it up, I know where you live
What else, Lewesians?

I like the variety of amazing architecture.
I like the fact it's safe enough to leave windows open and shops don't need to put grills up at night.
I like the hills.
I like the gardens in the Grange.
I like the fact that even a pub at the other end of town is only 15/20 minutes away... and I particularly like the Pelham and the Gardners.
I like the scruffy liberal fittie blokes.
However, I don't like the house prices and shop rents - why can we only buy veg in Bills and supermarkets?
I certainly don't like the proliferation of estate agests.
I don't like the amount of huge 4-wheel drives thundering through our small streets... or the smug idiots that drive them.

I like the smell of parafin that hangs around the town during the bonfire season.
I like the fact that chavs are kept to the volunteer and the lamb so us decent folk can drink in peace
I like the shrubbery and greenery that surrounds us
I like the war memorial
I like the interactive town map at the barbican
I like the castle
Not been to anne of cleeves for a while but i guess I will like that too
I like the huge firework that goes off at 6am on the morn of bonfire
Can't stomach harveys tho :-)

Forgot to add that altho i can't stomach harveys, greene king ale is even lower on my drinking list.

Too right. Can't believe what Gr**ne K*ng are trying to do to at the Lewes Arms. Have you seen the Sussex Express this week?
I love Harveys myself though.

Yes, I'd agree with that. As far as dislikes go, I'd add the proliferation of mopeds/scooters without silencers. As far as likes go, I'd add Lewes Station, particularly the Runaway Cafe.

The people in the town make it what it is. The amount of history every few yards makes the town a joy to walk around (if you don't mind hills) and the character of the place is the best I've seen. It's definately the friendliest place I know.

Lewes is one of the almost perfect towns in East Sussex but there's always a down side. In this case, grumpy old sods. Besides all the friendly, tolerant people, I'v noticed that there are a paticually large number of grumpy old sods. Yes, there are a few grumpy young people who wonder the town looking for somebody to tell off, but I have noticed that it's a considerbly large number of old people. This anoys me.
