I have a theory that I would like to test. Mark Williams (The Fast Show - 1980s comedy) is, I believe, a Lewesian. I don't know how much of a role he played in creating/writing the sketches but I've often pondered the similarities between one the programme's kooky characters and one of our local kooky characters. This local character who, I think might have been a source of inspiration, is proprietor of a large Cliffe area antiques emporium - let's call the place PA and let's call the bloke F.

Country Boy you've hit the nail right on the head, I think. I was extremely pissed on white wine when I formed my threory. And the theory is consequently flawed. The clip comes from "Harry Enfield and Friends" Which Mark Williams might not have been involved in and it may not at all be inspirited by F, proprietor of P**storal Antiques. I do still giggle every time I see F in Malling Street touting his wares. He's the spitting image of Marcus right down to his hair and the attitude

Your theory may be wrong but the panpipe band in the Fast Show were definitely based on the guys with panpipes who used to play outside Churchill Square in the 90s!

I saw you coming could have been based on No.1 Lewes - but Enfield must be a prophet, because his character per-dates our local shop by some years!
