What is going on? Why aren't the police patrolling the town? I reported a crime and they closed the case without even moving away from their desk.

Because they simply don't care. Neither the police that you pay or the government that you voted for care. Get used to sorting stuff out yourself. We are moving into truly dangerous waters and it will get nasty.

Tory Britain doesn't believe in society - only individuals matter, survival of the fittest, dog-eat-dog world that's only going to get worse for the average person - thanks to the ignorant numpties who keep voting for them and continue to have some misplaced forelock-tugging loyalty towards the elite, who in turn don't give a toss about them or anyone else apart from feathering their own nests. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so terrifying ...

As an individual I'm paying less tax than previously mostly because of changes to the Personal Allowance (both the level and the value over which it does down) and the thresholds between different bands. For me this has been more than enough to offset loses due to higher council tax.
I'd prefer to be taxed higher to maintain public services.
