See that Lewes has got a new pub on Market St, where the coffee shop used to be, run by Patch (ex-Snowdrop). Seems to have some good beers on and has more of a bar vibe than most places in town, so fingers crossed it’s popular and catches on...

This is exciting news. Nice to get something new and independent. Sad for the snowdrop to lose Patch though, he was always so welcoming. But great he's struck out on his own. I'll give it a go this weekend

Was there yesterday and it's genuinely a nice place in the evenings (can't comment on daytimes). Not a chain! Fresh air...

Is there a link for this place? Can't find any info.
Prefer a bit of research prior to visiting.
Ps. I like IPA

Which chain pubs are there in Lewes?

What have you got against IPA? One of the things I like about IPA and other "real ales" is that many of them have a British origin and are not produced by massive multinational foreign owned corporations. I find it funny that the drinking of the working class in the UK is an, invariably (except Carling, though even that's American owned), foreign lager.

Most of the pubs in Lewes are pubco tied (Enterprise/Green King/Fullers) or Brewery (local Harveys which is good, but still limited in what they are allowed to sell)
Genuine free houses exist (Snowdrop/Brewers) but they are the minority.
Good luck to The Patch - they must have moved incredibly quickly when Fillers closed and they will have ideas about decor etc they haven't had a chance to implement yet. Will have a different vibe to anywhere else in town

Pubco tied isn't the same as being a chain. Wetherspoons is a chain.
They can still manage to get a wide range of drinks in as pubcos have had to take heed of the market and allow their pubs to stock them. Just look at the Horse and Elly, both tied but with wide range. No doubt others too but those are my regular haunts.

Will they still serve sandwiches and cakes?

This is really great news and I hope it's really successful.
I visit a very similar place in another town and it deserves to do well.

Can't wait until they get some Kiln beers in. Man, I love that brewery. The new keg range is unbelievable.

Not really - most IPAs are flavoured with hops flown in from the American West Coast. Very few use the Sussex and Kent grown hops that flavour Harveys, a genuinely English product.

India Pale Ale is brewed in Britain with British hops - anything else is fake, poncy and hipster.
