THE NEW LAMB REVIEW
Decor design: Yugoslavian brothel circa 1980 with bright lighting, clashing colours and refectory tables. There is nothing inherently wrong with a make-over but this one misfires badly sacrificing spit and sawdust charm for the new brutalism
Atmosphere: crude-smug, as in 'Come on get drinking you parochial customers, what else is there to do in this backwater market town?'. The staff even wear tee shirts with the word staff written on them.
Drink prices; slightly above Lewes average
Music: A vinyl DJ alternating between out of date rap and disco classics through a muffled speaker
Improvements: the toilets are clean. Boxing off the garden and installing heating lamps is a decent idea but the lamps quickly heat confined tobacco smoke into a stale, clothing absorbent mist.
Lastability: get in quick for a glimpse of the nightmare before they realise the error of their ways and change it. No I don't own a local competitor such as the Arms but if I did I would have slept soundly last night.
Who are their potential customers? Coke users, the terminally slack, stag parties etc. The 'over 21 only' policy is a smart move as it will keep out the scout hut wreckers

You would think the new landlord would have visited it in the previous weeks and months and so knew what to expect would come though the door. How demoralising it must have been to have spent all that money only to create a cancer sauna outside and have the same old faces inside. It was great as it was, and served its purpose perfectly. The fact is there is no market for an upmarket venue in Lewes. Both Limetree and the place in the needlemakers dropped their cocktail nights, for a reason.

They need to either establish it as a non music bar or return it to being a great music pub. A disco once a month is just confusing. Particularly that disco. I really had not thought I would hear ballroom blitz by the sweet ever again. Despite the revamp it remains the best music venue in Lewes and will hopefully have gigs regularly again.

If you wanted a music pub to survive there you should have gone more than once a week when the music was on.
