I looked into setting up a shop in the Cliffe, but the rents were ridiculous. Also, some landlords want premiums too.
The reason our economy is screwed is as much down to greedy landlords as banks. The end result is that the only people who can afford to set up shops are cash buyers. That might sound like a good thing, but the reality is lots of people with more money than sense, setting up hobby shops. I have no capital, so I would have had to come up with a viable business plan.
If Lewes is going to survive as a place to shop in, we need sensible rents, cheap parking and support from the town and district councils. I won't hold my breath.
