For those that dont already know it's on tonight on channel 5 at 9pm. Has been voted the dirtiest hotel in the country. Will be interesting to see how many customers they dont get now LOl.

I think that sort of place will always attract the dross. I've been informed that since the film crew have been in they have actually cleaned their act up. Will be interesting if there is a follow up :-)

Please feed back all the gory details - I'll look forward to hearing all about it!

I think the main issue with The Crown is that beast of a woman that runs it - she seems so clueless I'd be amazed if she could find her arse with both hands.
At least Sally is sober so far.......

I have just watched the Hotel Inspector and am absolutely disgusted at the hotel being given back it's 3rd star - I can't believe it even had any stars!
How can even the final inspection by Visit Britain warrant 3 stars? Did the inspector have his eyes closed.
I grew up in Lewes but now live nearby. I often come back for my Lewes fix as I still consider Lewes my home town and remain very proud of it
However - despite the so called makeover - this programmes was not good for the town's profile. The owner still needs to smarten up her act (BIG time)and do Lewes proud. Other estblishments are a real credit to the County town and sadly the Crown Hotel isnt one of them.

Hmmm, the thing that puts me off going in the Crown is the look of the reprobates hanging around outside having a snout... they look 'local' if that makes sense.

Ha ha, that'll put the cats amongst the pigeons.

We viewed the Crown to buy last year and was disgusted with the filth of both the B&B/pub and especially the owners accommodation. I would never eat there having looked around the kitchen, the pub toilets make festival portaloos look clean! Afraid to say that the owner is living in a dream world and will never be able to make a go of it.

Sorry to inform you GH but im not sally. I did feel quite sorry for her tonight, the poor cow was getting all the blame put on her. She cant be held responsible for the condition of the hotel, thats the owners fault and problem. I did find the bottle's of beer stashed in the laundry room quite funny. And who makes the beds or should i say who cant make a bed, they were disgusting, if you cant make a bed then get fitted sheets would be the answer. And the 4 poster bed just killed me, if anyone even tried to have a bunk up in that it would have collapsed on top of them LMAO. It was very entertaining :-)

I wonder how people feel about life after appearing in one of these makeover shows...

If i was Sally i would have walked. She's up there every day even if she's had a heavy night and did'nt deserve to be blamed for that S**t hole. The owner should be ashamed of herself for blaming everyone else but herself.

Is the owner (Newspaper says she is called Karen) that woman who shacked up with that man who bought the Crown about 10yrs ago?

Think it was very unfair of Karen the supposed to be manager blaming the housekeeper Sally. Clearly Sally is trying her best but has no management or direction from Karen. Karen has just burried her head in the sand and the true fact is that Karen doesn't actually think there is anything wrong with the Crown and its dirtiness.

Clearly the hotel has its issues - but we all have to remember that at the end of the day they are trying to make good viewing! Alot of it would have been staged and edited for maximum impact. Surely there had to be something in it for the landlady - otherwise you wouldnt 'expose' yourself is such a huge way? Was the work paid for by Channel 5?

Absolutely speechless that it got a star back. My hair stood up when the Inspector described the rooms as lovely after the deep clean. Just shows you that Britain has no standards. Who on earth will pay 70 a night for such a post make-over dump? It's a slap in the face for people like Millers B&B whom work hard, charge less and offer authentic cozy rooms and outstanding service. Imagine what the White Hart is like if the Crown is already a tip. I would like to use one of these Bacteria machines on their buffet, bar and pool. I'm surprised no one I know hasn't come down with anything yet.

Well I thought it was hilarious viewing! Good old "it's not my fault" Karen! And entirely agree with Tony - how has The White Hart not been condemned? Just as filthy and expensive. Also I went to a Dinner Dance at Shelley's last December - meal was total crap, service appallling and bar prices through the roof! We might do better to turn them ALL into Premier Inns - at least they're clean and quite good value for money. Even the smoking ban can be bypassed in a lot of them - good times!

The landlady recognised she had failed miserably in the past. She sought help from the TV programme (clever) and is now trying to make a go of it. Shouldn't that be applauded? I say good luck to the Crown.

think what a lot of people are forgetting is that it is a TV programme. They try to make a place look as bad as possible for as much of the programme as possible before magic TV lady finally sorts it out - all that stuff about the crown being the worst place ever, or where she might finally fail is all put on and probably repeated at most places she goes. It was grubby, both the owner and housekeeper were fairly poor at their jobs, but when it was 'deep cleaned' and the roles were sorted out it looked ok. It looks like the sort of place that need a bit of cash spent on it to make it a lovely place to stay, but often that cash isn't there, so 2nd best is to be clean comfortable and tidy which looks like the direction it is going in.

Is this the owner who stopped a bonfire society from using the hotel for meetings or was it the previous one.

To be honest, I don't believe that they try to make a place look as bad as possible. If anything, they made it sound better than it was. They didn't show the disgusting toilets in the basement, the filthy conservatory or comment on the fact that you can't open the windows in any of the rooms at the front of the hotel due to the traffic noise.
Nice to see Sally working rather than propping up the bar, but I'm not sure I want to eat her egg and chips having seen her standard of cleanliness...................

If the owner doesn't give a toss (she clearly didn't have any shame at all) then why would the cleaner? In my humble opinion you need more than a little senior citizen running around with a duster in a hotel and bar that size. Not that I've ever been through the door - nor ever will now.
As for it being underfunded, probably, but you need to be at least clean enough for guests to stay there to make any money ...another missed Lewesian opportunity going to rack and ruin, chalk it up next to the White Hart.

The White Hart is just as much of a disgrace.I looked at the reviews last week and was quite shocked.
That place has gone downhill so much...The 'restaurant' smells of wee,and chlorine.Like I would imagine a badly run old folks home smells.
I would never eat there and would be very interested to see the kitchens..I wish Gordon Ramsey would go and sort it out.And the Hotel inspector.
It's about time these fine stablishments were run properly.

On Demand Five now. Have to say that we have some good memories of times there but several of our friends stayed there just after she took over, including one who runs a highly successful B&B and who offered her a lot of advice which she ignored even back then and they all reckoned Karen hadn't a clue. Given how many good B&B's there are in Lewes the reviews will have to stay good for some time before she can be guaranteed our custom. What I want to know is, how did the poor sods she 'cared' for prior to her reincarnation as hotelier feel about her standard of cleanliness?

Oh and the White Hart, hmmm, haven't stayed there for about 10 years now, they got the booking wrong, the sheets on our beds hadn't been changed from the previous occupants, the shower was broken, the drains smelt and there was more but I just can't remember it now, suffice to say it was bad enough that I don't even mention it as an option when people ask where to stay...

Quite how did The Crown regain any stars? Only even after the "make-over", the rooms that were shown still looked as if they'd been furnished with the sort of leftovers most of us would feel ashamed to donate to recycling!! The whole place needs serious money (like hundreds of thousands of pounds) spent on it before it'll ever be properly inhabitable! Three stars my BOTTOM!

As for not believing they don't make places look as bad as possible, you've obviously never made a TV programme.
