I had the same season ticket issue from brighton. Either all services to all london terminals or just FCC trains to london bridge which don't get you in on time. What they fail to tell you, but I luckily found out, is that you can get a brighton to CITY THAMESLINK season ticket which gets me into LBG on all services and saved me a ton of money. I have taken up the issue with the brighton commuters association as I'm sure lots of people are paying over the odds because Southern fail to inform anyone about this ticket when asked. Might be worth checking out from Lewes.
