In a couple of weeks, my step daughter is moving out which leaves us with a spare bedroom.
So we thought we might considder getting a student. We've never done this before and i don't know anyone who has either so i was wondering if any of you kind people can point me in the right direction, let me know your experiences...good or bad and tell me the best to go for and who to avoid.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated
Thanks
Andy

Maybe a foreign/visiting student? (There are lots of language schools in Brighton and you can probably arrange to have them for up to a month at a time) Or a mature student?
I don't know how old you are or what sort of house you have, but I would've thought that if you are a forty-something-year-old who goes out to work then you might have a lifestyle clash with quite a lot of students... mornings in bed, nights writing essays or out at clubs in Brighton, friends staying over and vomiting in your shower...
You could always consider a professional of some sort (visiting tutors at Sussex?). There is a website for workers in London who want somewhere to sleep during the week - I think it's called mondaytofriday dot co dot uk - maybe that could give you some ideas, though I doubt there are many people who commute 70 miles and back to Lewes everyday!

I have had foreign students from Sussex Downs College staying with me on & off for 5 years. Never had any problems, always good, well behaved & polite. Anyway I know that you have lots of backup from the college if there is a problem.
You could give them a ring, they will visit you to explain what is what.
