Own goal for them I think.

That depends on the champagne, and how much you pay for it. Breaky Bottom is an excellent local alternative, anyway.

Greensleeves, the wealthy like to think that the less wealthy feel envious or jealous, because that reinforces their feelings of superiority. They like to persuade themselves that their wealth is the result of some sort of faux-Darwinian "fitness" - winners v losers, where the correct fate of the losers is to be eliminated as part of humanity's evolution. The idea that the rest of humanity view them with anger and disgust, as monsters rather than role models, doesn't fit their mindset and is certainly not propagated by the media they control.

Oh you are such a hypocrite Pedro/Green Sleeves. I mean you never make generalized sweeping slurs about Conservative voters do you? Grow up. Socialism is in the past. The only Labour government in the last 50 years was headed by Blair who's more right wing than half the Tory party

Blair was certainly not more right-wing than the tories, and definitely not the (post Ken Clarke era) tories of today! I respect Blair for bringing in many progressive policies over his time, but the things he did get wrong, were indeed pointed out at the time for being so by the likes of Corbyn and McDonnell (and NOT the tories). Blair did indeed bring in great electoral success, especially in the early days, but he also lost millions of voters as well. Moderate, democratic socialism is the way forward - plenty of countries operate this way across Europe. Unfortunately, nationalism will always exist to counter this, because of greed, ignorance, intolerance and insecurity.

Brexit and people buying into the Corbyn smears definitely would have influenced the vote....but even with that in mind, the more progressive parties (that at least presented an option on brexit) represented 54% of the electorate. Tories and Brexit Party represent the minority of this country, just not in parliament.
Liberalism and left wing values will continue to fight and stand up against a right wing nationalist government on a rigged first past the post system. They will find a way to get rid of this shockingly poor government who over 9 years has broken the country and divided it more than should be possible in this era. They can't hide behind disingenuous and dishonest smear tactics and Brexit forever.
Keep trolling, Barr, I've missed you.

Very interesting argument of yours Greenie quoting electorate percentages - something you seemed unable to take on board after the EU referendum. Mind you that was a single issue and I can't expect you to grasp the complexities of multiple issue General Elections and a host of candidates from all sorts of parties each standing on a different ticket. How's your man Ollie - I noticed him walking through Lewes with a face like a slapped fish.
Carry on drivelling

What is wrong with patriotism? It's not something to be ashamed of. Excellent interview with David Starkey this week on YouTube discussing the issues that Labour and the Lib Dims fail to understand and until they do will remain in the wilderness of sensible UK politics.

@Hamid Barr - gloat if it makes you feel better. I'll try to refrain from saying "i told you so", after more failed Tory years in government and a significantly poorer relationship with the EU pans out.
Your lot are in the driving seat now, and unlike over recent months/years where we have at least had some control to stop the car going over the cliff, the dual-control foot brake has been removed and Boris can freely launch us all over beachy head. You can't blame Labour, Libs, "Ollie", "Greenie" and others anymore, as much as you'll try....

It's likely to take a lot longer and will ultimately be inferior trading relationships given the simple facts of buying power and influence. All those FTAs we have with many countries and blocs already that currently exist through our EU membership will be compromised.
We know the downsides, but what are the actual upsides....and upsides that go beyond either irking our European neighbours and remainers. It can't be based on misplaced national pride either, it has to be something tangible. What will the actual tangible benefits be? Seems just a stubborn pride thing to me at this stage. The benefits seemed to have been long debunked to the point where Brexit supporters just mutter "get Brexit done".
