I have heard a rumour that spearmint rhino have had a planning application accepted for the magistrates. At first I thought this was a good thing, as I thought it sounded like an Indian restaurant or up market cocktail bar, until I discovered it is a strip club. What's even more horrifying is that it's a chain!
Does anyone know if there is any truth in this rumour? Or what the opening times will be so that I can protest outside?

Yeah...chinny reckon. Nice try. I think they'd go bust in Lewes (no pun intended), as we're not that sort of town.

cL. Not quite true, no planning application but they are negotiating for a "retail unit" underneath hotel. Budget hotel and "gentlemans club", ideal combination to attract the stag clientelle from Brighton.

And no doubt it will be next door to Subway (yup, deal almost done). Oh how salubrious this development is going to be. Why didn't they build one in Uckfield instead? Much more the style of chavtown Uckfield.

""Earl of Lewes" Your point is well taken, however I disagree, if this application for a retail unit is granted and a "Gentlemens Club" is formed there will be no shortage of members. Lewes is changing drastically, and in many areas not for the better.
The local authority will give them their permission because they only see it as more revenue. I wonder where the Night Club is going to be????

This will be one of those wind up posts that appear periodically on the forum. Like the 'McDonald's is opening on school hill' type post, designed entirely to get a rise out of DFL's.
There is no proposal for a Spearmint Rhino at the Magistrates Court Site. The planning application for the site is for use classes A1, A2, A3, D1 and D2. That is, shops, financial and professional services, restaurants and cafes, non residential institutions (like museums or libraries) and assembly and leisure (cinemas, music and concert halls, bingo and dance halls, but not night clubs). Spearmint Rhino would be a night club or a members club, both are what planners call 'Sui Generis'. If this was the intended use we'd see a planning application for it.
And anyway, since when have national strip club chains opened branches in towns the size of Lewes?

I'm all for it. If it makes the ladies of Lewes smarten up bit when they go out everyone wins.
