Southover High Street

Does anyone know why Southover High Street is being dug up again, so soon after it was resurfaced? And why it was completely closed last night?
Yesterday, it took 50 minutes to drive from the Nevill to Malling and back again. The whole area must have been virtually gridlocked this morning, with all the accidents that happened.

I gather it has something to do with the drainage and sewer system, presumably repairing/maintaining. But it's certainly causing a fair amount of inconvenience and congestion across Lewes.

I don't understand why they didn't get that sorted before they resurfaced the entire road. Completely pointless to do the repairs after the resurfacing, and spoil it.

Tell me about it...
Apparently, having just finished resurfacing it, the sewer "partially collapsed". So they dug that up. Then they discovered that another section had "partially collapsed" so they've now closed the road completely in order to dig that bit up. We are told that the heavy machinery involved in the resurfacing didn't affect the sewer; I must admit that I wondered whether the six fire engines which were encamped there for several hours a few weeks ago, when The Old House caught fire, had had an effect.

It's a total PITA, but it would really really help if the idiots who ignore all the "road closed signs" didn't come hurtling down St Pancras Road the wrong way instead, which is what they were doing yesterday.

Let's just say that the put-upon inhabitants of this little corner of Lewes are looking forward to the end of the siege next week. We hope.

When the road was resurfaced someone "painted over the gas tap" or, in this case, resurfaced over a fire hydrant. Whilst they were sorting that out, the sewer collapsed. F&S are alive and well.

When I think of the emissions from all the cars in the traffic jams and the climate crisis about to destroy the world, wouldn't it be best to just leave south over high street to go back to nature and biodiversify?

Any environmental gain from the re-wilding of Southover High Street would be more than offset from extra emissions arising from all the gridlocked traffic elsewhere in the town.

And of course our highways planners would have thought about this and made the high street no parking to allow a clear passage , and we all like a clear passage rather than a blocked one

Not so,a.c.t. by that time the streets would be blocked by hordes of virtue signalling adolescents with Asperger's syndrome playing truant from priory school.
