Isn’t it about time this roundabout had some TLC? Maybe start with some “Keep Clear” signs on the road surface to help avoid tailbacks towards the tunnel.

If they widened the road to Beddingham (or even Polegate) there would be no tailbacks.

I'm not sure drivers would respect "keep clear" markings. Many don't take any notice of the ones at the roundabout by Tesco or the junction at Spital Road/De Montfort Road and Nevill Road.

There used to be markings there. Can't see why they can't replace them.

None of the above will help. The volume of traffic too high and growing, needs a new m25 type orbital round around south coast through the downs.

All that is needed is for the east bound road to filter to one lane BEFORE the roundabout (the left lane should be A26 only, the right A27 only and the middle lane closed).
It's absolute madness to filter from 2 lanes to 1 on the roundabout as it does currently, lack of planning and cost cutting (dual carriageway should have continued) has forced years of pollution and misery on any driver that needs to get through it.
Lewes to Eastbourne work starts in 2020, including junction improvements, over taking points and a new dual carriageway at the far end.

They could stick up some traffic lights. At least then you'd be able to get out of Lewes and turn right past all the people queuing to go to Eastbourne.

I used to work in Brighton about fifteen years ago and getting back into Lewes past the prison was always painful with a huge queue back to the roundabout but now everyone like DejaVu have shipped out to Eastbourne and Hailsham, getting into Lewes at half five is a total breeze. I live in Malling and it's easiy fifteen minutes quicker to go through town down Prince Edwards and up past the Elly than to try and get round the bypass and back in through the tunnel these days.

Yes sorry about that Or..., moving to Horsebridge only added about 15 minutes on my commute.
On paper it should have been a good 30 minutes, just goes to show how bad getting in or out of Lewes is most days.
