Slipway Fee or Free?

More important than Parqueen, Scoutos and Lobal Warning - will the Phoenix Slipway be free for anyone to turn up and launch a boat? Will Lewes infrastructure (what infrastructure?) be able to cope with 4x4s arriving with trailers and 50-foot masts, or will the slipway be restricted to rowing boats and canoes carried on the shoulder (my choice)? Why has this crucial question not been raised before? Perhaps some of the C7 traffic could be persuaded to take a boat from Newhaven to Lewes (tidal currents permitting)?? Could the Dieppe ferry make an additional stop at the new Lewes slipway???

Mad as it seems the Sussex Express once ran a story about the possibility of ferries making an additional stop up the ouse near Lewes. The story was a bit like the Holy Grail story where it was speculated that it could be burried under the old library at Albion street, the week was probably slow for news.

No they weren't!!! (certainly not the holy grail story anyway, which ran for a few weeks afterwards and was an Eccles 'World Exclusive'). The Ferry story was a long time ago and memory a bit hazy. There have been April Fools stories such as painting the Town Hall pink etc.

The Ouse is only navigable from the sea to Cliffe bridge according to the Environment Agency

'Only' that seems far up enough to create a port for me (joke). I only mentioned cos of shs post, and was just an observation. There are many many reasons why the story was v silly and also stating some of the stories that can be thrown up in local news (can no one remember the holy grail story!). Good piece of knowledge Mystic mog, hope you didn't call the Enviroment Agency to verify (although it would be interesting to hear what baffled response they would come up with).

Hmm... global warming could help us here, plus a full moon and a bit of rain. What with Teak Oil an' all it'll be a sailing ship anyway, won't be no diesel powered ferries. I'm quite looking forward to global warming now, & Pea Coil!

How come Mr Eccles never reported the tragic accident he had after one or two pints of cider in the Gardeners a few years ago?

I seem to remember it was reported, in Viz though.

The Ouse used to be navigable as far as Barcombe - thats why there's still evidence of wharves up there.
It was silt wot did for it tho. (I presume they were barges, I can't see any of those clippers getting under Cliffe bridge.)
