I've always been shy and hopeless at making small talk. I've always felt like an oddball...but the strange thing is it's not me that makes me feel bad, but other people who expect you to be something your not....what is wrong exactly with being a quiet shy person? I do not feel the need to tell loud, extroverts to put a sock in it, so why do people think I should change?

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.

In my younger days I read somewhere that old chestnut "A stranger is a friend you are waiting to meet", this may sound a little daffy but for some reason I accepted it and have since then treated strangers in just that way and have mostly been rewarded by getting to know them. One or two didn't work out quite so well and some were disasters but in the main it not a bad thought to carry in your head.
