This is better photo of the premises than the agent that you're paying a small fortune for to try and let it ! And do they know if it's a new lease or an assignment, no details on their website. Not sure it's worth £1,200 a month though.

@shoppertunity are we to presume you're from whichever charity had it last ? . Whichever charity you are can I recommend that the good people of lewes think about supporting you before giving you money or donation of goods as you seem to spend lots of your profits on renting unused properties that you're tied into because of bad lease planning .

If it's £42000 then that would explain why it's so expensive in there. Charity shops used to be cheap but now it seems to be cheaper for me to buy stuff new rather than go in there.

@Border Control. It's a new lease (and nothing to do with the Red Cross who saw out their term). Oakleys charge 10% of the yearly rental achieved. This is fairly standard. £14k pa is the asking figure. Negotiation possible (i.e. if prospective tenant requires new shop front).

It would certainly help turf out the drunken rabble if the shopfront was flat, and increase the space inside. But I can't see LDC agreeing to that.

Belladonna. Yes m'lady, how much do you think commercial rents are in Lewes. I remember back in the late eighties when the precint was new, Robert Hill's shoe shop now Clarks shoes, the rent was £27,000 and that was nearly thirty years ago. That's why there's so many multi nationals in the precint.

If people pay the rent then it is worth it -
There are very few empty shops in Lewes so either stores make enough money or the shop must be a hobby.

So Zeb, Oakleys charging £1,680.00 including vat and the landlord having to 'advertise' on here too ! That's outrageous, you'll be aware that Oakleys will still claim their fee regardless. Get them to put proper photos on their website, make them work for their money.

So will the new shop sell string or cupcakes? It's a good place for a new estate agency as well...
