Does anyone EVER go in here? every time I walk past it - totally empty apart from a few sad staff. Must be a tax dodge?

Well-run hotel. I like the new walls protecting the car-park. Notices warning of wheel-clamping to keep illegal users out and keep guests' cars secure! Very respectful toward paying visitors. Recommended thoroughly.

I was in there the other day. Very clean, very nice however one of the guests left a stagnant guff in the dining room that smelt like the drains backing up.

It's old age - the guffs just fall out @ random anywhere Even when you're talking to the people, then they just ignore them totally.

It's famous for being haunted. Check it out online. The staff you see are in fact 300 years old.

The bread and butter for this kind of hotel is business travellers, functions and receptions.
With the opening of the Premier Inn they have probably lost the business travellers. Speaking as a business traveller I know the company I work for wouldn't even consider a hotel like Shellys when there is a Premier Inn in the town.
Lewes hotels have been able to rely on their lack of competition from the chain hotels for too long.

The building next to Shelleys is a bit of a state. Is it staff accommodation or a laundry? There's a falling-down curtain at one rotten window, and pallets stacked up inside. Doesn't make a good first impression for the hotel.
