Well it’s that time of year again (seems it comes round sooner with each rotation of the sun around the earth) that my thoughts turn to those in need of succour and companionship - those that feel in need of a social gathering once in a while and maybe haven’t for ages - those that don’t mind upsetting about 49% of the users of this great and glorious forum - those that maybe want to help the great tradition of Sussex bonfire go with a bang, but maybe aren’t sure how to get involved...
Anyone fancy joining a local street drumming band now is the time to think about it - we start the new year rehearsals on 23rd Jan and all are welcome - no experience necessary, no musical background required (that might surprise some of you), and no equipment necessary either.
Rehearse in Lewes Tuesday nights - contactable on FaceBook too - you know who we are...

But Lopster, your "drumming band" make an appalling racket that should be banned from all public places.

Hey "proper drummer", why don't you come along and give us a try. We're not professionals by a long shot and many have never been on a drum kit or played in a band before.
However, we are a friendly bunch and welcome new members. It gets your arse off the sofa on a Tuesday evening and gigs are fantastic. We have social events too.
Come on, you know you want to....6.30-8.30, Scout hut, Ham Lane, Lewes. We'll be back for rehearsals on Tues, 23rd January with a gig in Lindfield a week later.
Be good to see a few new members.

We have 3 sections....Toms, which are basically stripped down mounted toms from drum kits and should form about 50% of the band. Bases which are stripped down floor toms and make up 25% of the band and the last 25% is snares....normal snare drums. We take songs and strip them down into the 3 drum parts. Songs such as Whatever you want by Quo, a few marching songs such as The great escape, a few fun songs such as The Adam's family and lots more. We have around 30 songs which we try to get though as many as possible during rehearsals and we're currently working on a few new ones such as Blue Monday (New Order) and The Dambusters theme.
Most newcomers are started on Toms and they can stay there or progress onto one of the other sections.
Initially, until we are sure someone likes it, we provide drums and harnesses, when you're ready, you can purchase and customise your own.

I've listened to your band. I have to say that every 'tune' you play sounds exactly the same so I imagine it's easy to pick up. Can I suggest large cotton wall balls on the ends of your drumsticks?

Cozy....come along and give it a go and see just how easy it is. We differ from other drumming bands by what we do. Most other bands tend to play tribal stuff which is great for 3 minutes but after that...............
