This will be the kick up the back side Chandlers and PTS need. They've been getting away with their rip off prices for too long.

Got to agree with those that think Chandlers are expensive, way over the top IMHO.

I find this thread a little strange..... Screwfix, a national chain store are opening a branch in Lewes and most on here seem to think that this is great, even going so far as to say that it will give the local independent, Chandlers a kick up the a**s, (and quite possibly put them out of business).
Not so long ago, someone suggested that Tesco's were the lowest of the low for wanting to sell products that were otherwise (or used to be) available at independent shops.
I can't quite see where the difference is here, but it's great that Screwfix are coming and terrible that we have Tesco's?

Lewes people complain about Tesco taking trade away from other local shops, but no-one says anything against that other chain shop Argos.
Screwfix is very similar in operation to Argos. You choose your goods from a catalogue, go to the cashier with the part number, and then wait to collect your goods. And pay less.

The screwfix shopping method integrates well with modern life as one can search the catalogue in the comfort of home/workplace, and removes the need to spend ages in Homebase/B&Q looking for something that is "probably coming in on the next delivery!"

Screwfix in Lewes...... they may well have cheap prices but what about the personal service that current merchants give, knowledge and friendly service and stock availability, I'm sure both current merchants will still be happy to help when you all slowly come back once you see how good Screwfix service is.
See you all soon xx

Don't forget that Screwfix are intended for trade customers who know what screw size and type they need for the job. And you will have to buy a box of 100 (although probably still as cheap as 10 stuck to a card in Homebase).
But if you are a confident DIY man there should be no problems. And they will be open Saturday and Sunday.

Screwfix are B & Q owned so will prob be more of an issue to Homebase than Chandlers. If you want sand, cement, ballast bricks, blocks, timber, ply, paving, lintols etc I think I know where I would go (clue CHA*D*ERS). Also, Screwfix are not as cheap since they were taken over.

Screwfix are owned by Kingfisher, and they are the jewel in their crown. You can guarantee to receive excellent service, friendly staff and very good product knowledge, whichever Trade Counter you visit around the country. I am sure that Lewes will be no different. The prices are superb, and they sell pretty much anything that you will possibly need. My advice is to go in and try it. You will not be dissapointed.
