OK, so it's school nativity time.
Does the role that your child has been cast as reveal what their teacher really thinks about them?
Do the teachers give all the crap roles (i.e. the random stable animals) to children they don't like much (or to the children of parents they dislike), and then give all the starring roles (i.e. Angel Gabriel, Mary, Joseph, 3 wise men) to their favourite children?
Any school teachers out there? How is all this decided?! I'm a parent of a child in an upcoming nativity play and I would like to know.

I suspect it's the other way around. I'd give the children lacking confidence the key roles to boost their morale?

I'm not religious, but to celebrate Christmas without understanding its origin seems absurd. We are historically a Christian country and Bible stories are a part of our culture, so the Nativity shouldn't be ignored.

The origin of Christmas is a pagan, winter solstice festival that was borrowed by Christianity when it spread to these shores. Historically it is incredibly unlikely the Romans would have called a census in the depths of winter so even if there was an element of truth to the nativity story it wouldn't have happened in December.
