The post office have announced that they are stopping Saturday delivery of post due to the pandemic to protect postmen. I'm all for saving postmen's lives but can someone explain this to me. It looks suspiciously like it's cost cutting, probably to be shortly followed by job cutting but using the virus as an excuse. I don't object to the post office reappraising their service and altering it but I do object to using the current situation as an excuse for it.

The Independent reports it as a temporary suspension due to severe absence levels.
The Mirror reports it as scrapped.

RM have been trying to get a 5 day week for delivery for years. This is a perfect opportunity to give it a try using the lurgy as a smokescreen.
Saturdays mail will end up in your poor postman's bag on Monday, making their life harder.

Most of the important mail is generated by businesses during office hours Monday to Friday, and sent first-class to arrive the following day. It would therefore make sense to retain Saturday deliveries to domestic addresses, and omit Monday delivery.

Postmen have trollies these days. So what of they have say 4 letters for a house rather than 2 or 3?

I like The Grange Gardens, and the way the teashop has the most odd mixture of china from the charity shops
