Salt and vinegar?

It's rumoured that local authorities are looking into using vinegar to control weeds on footpaths and kerbs.
This can only mean one thing, or two, that tight-fistedness has plumbed new depths or the latest EU directive has wiped out the remaining effective herbicide use. So councils will be buying up thousands of gallons of Sarson's finest malt vinegar to spray around on the tarmac. The next visit to the chippies will have to co-oincide with a weed spraying and you can politely ask for one squirt or two - you might have a long wait.
You are left wondering what brain-storming, blue-skies thinking went into this. Another daft idea. So you get the whiff of the chippies without the chips. Try vinegar on the bindweed that manages to get through 6" of pavement - I don't think so.
Then maybe with that referendum looming, could this be a spoof on the part of the leave campaign? Next question - salt and glyphosate?
If ever there was a Brexit gamechanger, this is it. I'm out

It ain't vinegar @ the local chippy, it's Non Brewed Condiment - acetic acid and colourant bought in by the gallon. Fact.

There speaks a chippy, or NonBrewedCondiment. There was me thinking it had stood in oak barrels for decades, brewed from the finest continental ingredients by generations of time-served condiment factors. Illusions dashed. Don't feel so bad about it ending up on the footpath

It's taking place as an experiment in Bristol, in an attempt to find a way to control weeds without using dangerous herbicides. It has NOTHING to do with the EU, thank God.
