Isn't the Forum a sad sight these days? I remember when it used to be vibrant, full of angry arguments about tables on the pavement outside Bills, Charles Style, driving the wrong way up Cliffe High Street...

This forum has always been and will always be what people make it.
There’s no agenda here and it’s run by someone who actually lives in the heart of the town.
If you don’t agree with the opinion of a poster feel free to give your side of the argument.

Yup. You wait and wait for an interesting post these days. It's all Zuckerberg now. It's a shame because this was a genuinely local thing. It was purely Lewesian. Thanks for the good times, Webbo. Paul Newman.... ACT.... Old Guy...

There were some anti hunt protesters on the roundabout on the tunnel side of the bridge yesterday. A bit out of season I thought.

Well Basil you could try posting about something and see what people's reaction is. I don't mean just the state of the forum but, for example~ the streets seem really dead at the moment, there's an atmosphere even more unpleasant than exhaust emissions, or how come there's no bikes around except when they're swarming even though there's far fewer cars, or mask paranoiacs make me sick. There's plenty of controversial topics you could raise and see the fur fly and the knives come out. Go for it.

You may have a point basil but to be fair you are quite a negative poster on the whole. You can appear to make personal criticisms of posters rather than valid points about issues. You haven't come out with your mantra about the EU as a neo conservative conspiracy recently but I remember asking you to justify it several times with no response. This could have lead to an interesting argument.
Lewes present appeared to have taken over from the forum for a while but symes has stopped that through his appalling attitude towards freedom of speech. It may be that people are getting fed up of putting their views up on here or Facebook because of the reaction to them or they just can't be bothered anyway. It is a shame as I can honestly say that I have learnt interesting things from some of the debates on here over the years and have even changed my views at times.
I don't use Twitter which I believe can be good for debates but can anyone recommend other forums in which there is civilised debate? I do know incidentally that the plural of forum is fora but some words look wrong.

Why are there so many ducks on The Pells
I think LP has taken over from here due to the fact that everyone is on fb anyway and thus you don’t have to open up this clunky relic of a techno age long since past

I'm not sure that this is in any way more clunky than FB. And even if were, I'd prefer to have excellent arguments with my neighbours via a local thing than via the silicone valley billionaires. It's about pride. It's about Lewes doing it. Just like California can. Thanks for the fun over the years, Webbo. I don't know you but in my head you're legendary. Don't ever be druv.

I'm still here, Mark, but when we started to have to log in, my old name wouldn't work 90% of the time.
I miss the days of Newman, Lopster, Lewesianna, Spinster Of This Parish etc. And I hate Farcebook, so LP isn't for me.

Yes, ACT, I wasn't active then but I used to read the forum and you were one of the best. I thought I had an idea who you were... but turned out to be wrong. Anyay, no criticism of you Webbo.

What do you think the EU is then, some social democratic project? Ther's no room on here to go into detail so see what you think of this:

Thank you for posting that basil. We all know that corporate lobbyists have tried and sometimes succeeded in influencing all governments including the EU but there are too many examples of government interference in business in the EU for me to be convinced that it was essentially neo conservative or neo liberal. There was at times an element of social democracy in the EU but basically it was an alliance that tried to ensure prosperity and peace for Europe in a generally pragmatic way while being basically Pro capitalism. It failed in the UK case because it went too far, too fast politically and because Cameron was too weak to persuade the country.
Can you explain what you think is the main point in the article you post (which I have carefully read) that supports your view? I don't see any evidence to support the points he makes and which you support.
