What do the good folk of Lewes think of the new development next to Wickle where the Sussex Express used to be / is? Seems very disappointing to me. Such a prominent position surely deserved something a little better?

I think its a little early to tell but it does seem a little oversized in comparison the neighbouring shops.

Disappointment? Surely that's entirely appropriate given the Express is always a disappointment?

I'm looking forward to what will of course be a carefully researched piece on the Depot Cinema debacle this Friday. It will be pithy and balanced revealing a sensitive grasp of local issues as usual....in the real world we need a brave independent newspaper that could reveal the human failing and errors of those that make decisions on our behalf.
I actually think that the time has come for such a rag - maybe we shall end up with both a successful well run cinema and a proper local newspaper.... perhaps Lewes will finally shed its parochialism

Yup, an eyesore compared to what's around it but what is it going to be? Any ideas?

Cynic - it's a shop at street level and I think a restaurant down below. Heaven knows what the flats on the twitten behind are going to make of all the outside seating at the back.
I did hear the builders say that they haven't found any tenants yet and looking at the amount of available retail units in Lewes I fear if may stay empty a while...

It is in a nice central position to become a Wetherspoons pub.
Perhaps it could be named "The County Rouser".
