Routes in Lewes for runners

I've recently given up the booze and started running in an attempt to shed a little bit of weight, get fit and generally feel more energetic.
I've been running to Offham and back by turning left at the bridge over the Ouse just on from the Pells' Pool, but due to wet weather, I keep returning looking like a contestant from Takeshi's Castle, muddy, draped in the excrement of farmyard animals. While it's a lovely route, there are overgrown parts which mean I constantly sting my arms and legs due to the presence of stinging nettles, and regularly slip over to the amusement of dog-walkers, and even the dogs themselves.
Is there a jogging group I can join in Lewes? Is there a better route in Lewes for runners like me? (I can currently probably manage 3 miles, which isn't great, but I'm not terrible). If you know anything, please let me know... for the sake of my health, I don't want to be tempted back onto the booze, and an unfortunate injury would definitely tempt me...
Many thanks x

Once around the Tesco field is 1 km, so 5 should sort you out...

Up School Hill, past the town clock, up past the Pelham, left at the Prison crossroads, down Winterbourne Hollow, left at the Swan, down Southover High St, past the Station, right in to Lansdowne Place, along Friars Walk to School Hill. That should limber you up. Come on, chase me . . .

Hi Paul,
Like ProSound said, Tesco field is a good one as it's a kilometer around, it also has a few different exits where you can go over Wiley's Bridge, up to Old Malling, or towards town and the nature reserve.
I'm just getting back into running after a hiatus of a year. If you want a running buddy, just say! It would be nice to run with someone or a group, if anyone on here does that.
