I gave up plumbing recently because too many customers were asking me to do a job at reduced price. They were then expecting me to do the job they had seen at their friends house, but expecting me to do it for the price they got for some dumb plumber on a unicycle.
Maybe you are a good customer paying a painter £120 - £170 a day or maybe you just wanted it done cheap. So you hired someone without public liability, no pension, van insurance and expected a perfect job.
Maybe you are not happy because you have realised that you are the fool, and that is a hard pill to swallow. Especially now, as a good painter will take 4 times the amount of time to put it right. Also, you will have to pay him properly. So you will pay 2.5 times the original estimate!
He probably is not a rogue trader, I expect it is a case of rogue customer.
How much did you pay your painter on a bike per day?

He's certainly cheap. That's probably why you've seen him all over the place. Sounds like you got what you paid for.
Buy cheap, buy twice …

@Old adage £120 a day for a painter is not cheap, it's the going rate (especially when the bloke turns up on a bike and has limited tools of the trade).
@Ex plumber, yes he is he paid this figure you're talking about - so therefore he is a "good customer" and the bloke on a bike is a rogue trader then?
