According to the government's coronavirus map, infection rates in Lewes West are now significantly higher than anywhere else in the county.
Anyone have any idea why this might be? (I realise this data is always 5 days behind the current position, but I'm still intrigued).

I was thinking the same, @oldbutintouch.
I noticed that when they had high infection rates in Kent, it took ages for the rate in Sheppey to come down, and there are 3 prisons on the Isle of Sheppey. And the area just south of Sutton where High Down and Downview prisons are was higher than the surrounding areas, and high for a lot longer too.
I suppose social distancing in a prison is hard to achieve.

Banged up, they won't get much sun and their vitamin D levels will be low. I doubt whether their diet is very healthy either.

The government data no longer shows rising Covid Rates in Lewes West - they are falling. In the 7 days to 13 February there were 5 positive tests recorded in Lewes West compared to 10 in Lewes Central and East for the same period. For the Lewes area as a whole 82 people returned a positive test between 12 and 18 February which was a 29% drop on the previous week. This therefore suggests that there were about 106 Positive Tests in the whole Lewes area in the 7 days between 5 Feb and 11 Feb. This does not support a case for a sustained level of significantly higher positive tests in West Lewes than anywhere else in the county and if anything just a minor statistical blip.

I think seven-day cumulative cases in Lewes West were around 20 higher than Lewes Central and East for about a week. This was around the same time that the local rags were reporting an outbreak at the Big House. So, yes, I suspect there were around 20 cases in the prison.

I was one of those positive cases from a few weeks back. It was definitely real, but I did recover, but then again, I'm not old and frail. It was an unpleasant experience. A "seasonal flu" it was not.

This thread started by talking about rates. It is now being put in terms of actual numbers which, as I hoped we would all know by now, is affected by the number of tests carried out.

I've sadly never done acid. I think it would have been a much more pleasant experience than covid.

It's not rates any more smiler it's council tax and it's means tested, so the number of numbers is quite numbing. Just keep paying until the numbers run out.
