Enoch Powell was ahead of his time with his predictions and by not taking any notice we are now paying the price.
Those involved are nothing more than criminals who use any excuse to rob. The police should be allowed to use as much force as is necessary to quell the riots and if need be involve the army.
Prisons full up? OK send them all to a remote uninhabited island and let them knock 'seven barrells' out of each other.
Perhaps some form of National Service could be introduced to replace their inadequate parents.

Despite having been strongly opposed to national service in the past it is perhaps now the only option to deal with these savages. What other options are there quite frankly?
Ok, we could try to create more jobs - with a few excpeptions people who work for a living understand the 'value' of things, both materially but also in the societal sense.
However, I fear it is at least 2 generations too late for these creatures (I call them creatures as it's really hard to imagine them as people) and that given opportunities to work and better themselves they would be unlikely to take advantage and would actually prefer to receive benefits and make the rest up with thieving.
Ha! I'm usually an optimist!

These riots were probably the wake up call that some of the lily-livered do-gooders in our society needed. How can it be that a 31 year old arrested and appearing in court this morning for looting is a teacher?
We need to get back to basics and start restoring some good old fashioned discipline and respect. That starts with the parents (and I am one myself).

For the ones who will end up in front of the beak i would suggest 24 months on the building site, less than minimum wage, putting right what they damaged. If they are in further education or about to go into further education, tough poo, their career is in hold for 2 years. For those not in education system and not working then a military career is the only option. If they refuse on religious grounds then deportation where applicable.
Failing any of these I suggest cutting off their goolies. With no offer of membership to the Darwin Awards.

They are not rioters they are looters and these disgusting events have more in common with raves than political demonstrations. They deserve no thought no discussion let the Police restore order and make examples out of as many as possible . Let us hope they do serious time and not some fun community service rubbish.
Thought and assistance must be concentrated on those clearing up the mess and paying for it. Then we demand the Police take back the streets start dismantling the welfare sustained human zoos and stop pretending the police are there to be friendly social workers.

Another thing I found quite incredible was the interview with the young girls who thought that local businesses were fair game as it was 'showing the rich we can do what we want'.
This comment is so shocking in that it shows just how far from any understanding of the world and their own society these girls are. Most small business owners are not 'rich' (if some of them are then good luck to them) but are actually extremely hard-working people who create opportunities and local jobs for others. At the same time these 'rich' local businesses pay plenty of taxes.. which go towards supporting the likes of the looters..
Maybe we should teach social responsibility and morality in schools?

Toot, I work in an area that has suffered from very serious rioting in the past couple of days. There is devastation everywhere. You have to see and feel it to understand the true extent of the situation. Right now, from where I am sitting I can here the police helecopter overhead, the Sainsbury car park is full of police and random gangs of hooded youths are roaming up and down the streets totally oblivious to authority. Do you wish to swap places?

They hide behind silly human rights legislation, live off society and take whatever they can for free. They think it's their right to do so as they know some do gooder will support them.

To all of you banging on about National Service: I challenge you to find one senior officer in the Military who, at a time when the forces have never been so under-resourced and overstretched, supports the idea that they should be additionally burdened as a finishing school for idiots who don't want to be there. Get a grip.

Perhaps my clearly written postscript stating that in no way do I agree with the riots wasn't quite clear enough for you... so I say it again:
In no way do I agree with the riots.
What I find laughable is middle-class solutions to working class problems - THAT was my only point.
And in case you missed it - in no way do I agree with the riots. IN NO WAY.

I wondered when a moron would post the name of Enoch Powell in connection with the riots. It didn't take long, did it? Enoch Powell was a failed Tory politician who hoped he could revive his career by playing the race card and appealing to the Nazi-minded scum of the population. It didn't work as he wanted and he ended up a lost soul in Northern Ireland. But he still seems to have his ageing supporters.

I don't agree with rioting either, but agree with Clifford pointing out that when rich kids trash stuff it's perceived as just high-spirited horseplay rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. And they don't loot because they can just get what they want with daddy's plastic.
A colleague reminded me today of Martin Luther King's saying that a riot is the vice of the unheard.

I'm glad. Our society is rotten to the core. It's hypocrisy is astounding. Soddom and Gomorrah, here we are. Time to refresh, renew. Bring it on. The ruling class vested interests that screw the ass off you and me keep the current situation limping along as it's in their interests. You won't find them living near you, or working as hard as you do, stuck in the 9-5. You are all suckers. Living in sh1t, next to the breadline, worried about your pensions, jobs. Small, tiny inconsequential lives, stuffed into arse-end battery farmed rabbit hutch estates.
There is only one real way to renew, tear down the old.... It's decayed, cut it out. Out of chaos let a new life rise.
