Any reason why Ringmer doesn't have a bonfire society? Most other surrounding villages seem to have one?

In the 1960s there was a decree passed by the Bonfire council that Ringmer should not be allowed to have anything resembling anything that may have originated in Lewes. This was an attempt to stop Ringmer becoming 'Greater Lewes' . Hence there are very few DFL's in Ringmer, scarce few vegans, less pot bellied belligerent bonfire Nazis and you don't need to have had your great grandparents born there to qualify for politeness from 'locals'. So no Bonfire society allowed.

I know a number of people from London now resident in Ringmer
Don't blame them myself the capital is now like a third world sh*thole in most parts

I moved to Lewes from Heathfield nearly 100 years ago with a bunch of us that moved in from villages in the Weald . Lewes was to us and still is the county town , where would you have us go? Didn't make us local but we worked locally and socialised locally and after some time felt nearly comfortable. Difference is how you muck in and what you contribute but there's no substitute for growing up in a place and having schoolfriends and relatives around you. I wouldn't live in London if you paid me, it's a desecrated , defiled blight on the nations conscience. Lewes is still unique and attracts unique sorts of people. Everyone I know from Ringmer is from Halland!
