Is this really the end of an era.The pub formerly known as The Sun has had it`s last Friday night trading.Loads of punters out last night. If there had been just a few of those every week it would have still been a pub.Now what is the future??More flats, out of the reach of young peoples pockets, just what Plumpton Green needs.................not!!
Pub still open until Wednesday if you wish to pay your last respects.
Well don Tan,you had a real good go at keeping the pub alive.ThankyouXX

Should have closed a long time ago. There are 2 other pubs within easy walking distance plus 2 others at either end of the road. How can a small community warrant 5 pubs?

Ali - pointless whinging now it's a done deal - the Winnie has been struggling for yonks with the brewery not helping either. Not going to be flats - houses apparently and affordable housing is on its way soon in the village so that argument holds no water. If the village felt that strongly about it then they would/could have bought it and run it as a cooperative. 3 pubs is enough. See you in the Fountain. Or the Half Moon. But not the Plough cause that is crap!
ps. spaces after full stops looks so much neater.

Country Boy, the fifth pub,The Shepherds Dog has been gone for years.
PB don`t try to convince me that affordable housing is good here. Affordable to who?
Those on benefit or dole scroungers that`s who.How many of those do we have in the village? These new houses are to be for Plumpton people or those that have had connections with the local area in perpetuity. Yeah right!
Houses built on farm land not even originally designated for housing, terrible access and from a private road and bridleway too .Who in control took the back hander for that then? Is the tyre dump still there? Oh, I almost forgot the wonderful kind "donation" that may be made for use in the community.
Rant over.........................................for now!

The infamous Simon Thomas bought The Sun when it previously closed and turned it around and sold it on making a tidy profit. I think it's now owned by Enterprise Inns who seem to have failed pubs all over.

Ah yes, Enterprise: also owners of the Crown Inn, that fine hostelry and great advertisement for this town.

Oh i just love the crown. In particular, i love all those colourful characters sitting outside on the pavement smoking every day in the afternoon...same old faces. Oh the joys of living that life

Clientele. Saw one using the cash point just outside as a urinal the other night. As elegant inside as it is outside! And such friendliness and good will!

I was also at the Winnie on Friday night. Agree it will be a shame to see it go. As someone who did use it as their local, I agree it is a pity more of those on Friday didn't use it enough when it was still a going concern.
But the real problem here as I understand it was that due to Enterprise Inns, the pubco who currently own it (eg not an actual brewery) charging landlords too much in rent and for drinks, there was never any incentive to really invest in its future.
This is despite the best efforts of the succession of landlords who I appreciate did try their best. That then meant after a few years there was just not a strong enough groundswell of support for it when it was put up for sale.
Fascinating to see that Enterprise also own the Crown in Lewes and explains a lot...
