Another exciting quiz question based on Norman Baker's Parliamentary questions.
How many people were claiming incapacity benefit/severe disablement allowance in the Lewes constituency in May 2009?

It is hard bringing up a baby on your own but my point is that kids are having kids when they should be at school. I blame the parents. Most of the parents of these kids having babies have neither done an honest days work in their life.

By the way Another, did you know that teenage pregnancy rates have fallen year by year, with a 7.6% drop since 1998? Do you think that perhaps inadequate information about contraception has more to do with teenage pregnancy than trying to get a council flat and avoid a job?

another good question. my guess is perhaps around 100, not because of the silly reasons above, but because we are more likely to have older people with health problems, and the access to making claims.
And i do not know a single 16yr old who has got herself pregnant to claim benefits, though I do know of one over 60yr old, who without criticising her, was intentionally pregnant artificially in order to get what she wanted.

They are really going to own up to it ... I dont think so . There's a few families on the Landport estate for starters. Have a look around Ousedale and you'll see many dole scroungers and young mums,. We should do what the Chinese government do, first child ok then after that you have to pay them. |That would make them think twice before getting pregnant.

Im far from sour and guilt ridden as you put it. Just dont like seeing people taking the mickey when there are genuine people out there looking for housing, who work hard and are put to the bottom of the council list because single mums take priority!!!!

I hate to disappoint you Another, but no-one gets a council house at 16. You have to be 18 to have a tenancy.

Well there's still 16 year olds having babies and waiting till their 18 to get housed then if thats the case!!!

Unfortunately 'another' i don't have time in the day to wander around speculating about complete strangers and their family arrangements, because i am busy working. I am leased to see however, that you are 'free all day' and are keeping a tight statistical analysis of these apparent blights on society, and their evil existence . I look forward to hearing how you are going to remedy the problem you have identified, because I am sure you wouldn't want to look like one of those nutters who revels in just moaning about anyone they can find fault with

By the way - I am the product of a single parent family. All my siblings (there are a few of us) have degrees, good jobs. My mother never went on the dole, never claimed benefit, always worked hard. There are very few girls who intentionally get pregnant to get a council house - it's one of those urban myths that has been put about by the daily mail and repeated ad infintum, and really pisses me off.

You must have breraks like me Geoff as i've seen you respond at different times of the day. I dont have a problem with single parents, what i do have is a problem with people getting pregnant to get housing, moved or larger homes especially when there is people out there who really genuinely need housing. I over heard a conversation at the school when a mother said she would have to get pregnant soon as her little one would be going fulltime soon and the social expect her to get a job, now that stinks !!!!
