Yep, I agree its quiet in town but the Lansdown always seems busy and good atmosphere and The Lamb is jumping when they have music on which is most weekends.

We need a Weatherspoon's in the town. It may not provide the ambience: but it might cause other pubs to adjust their prices in favour of the local artisans.

The Pelham used to be a great pub before these new people took over and turned it into a restaurant for the dfl's.

from bottom to top:
snowdrop is overpriced and is more of a food pub.
dorset is better under new management but never feels like a place you can bed in and get drunk.
gardeners is a real locals intimidating sort of place but at least it's a proper pub.
John harvey is neither a pub nor a foodie place but always a nice welcome.
volunteer was nice when the young couple took over but it's an awful little place now.
the lamb is really unappealing.
the lewes arms always smells a bit yeasty and i find the silence of no music quite oppressive when it;s quiet, but the landlady is quite hot.
haven't been in the crown since they overcharged me on bonfire night.
haven't been in the oak for a long time.
the lansdown is okay. i'd like it a lot it if i was 18. Which i'm not, sadly.
rights of man is okay. very quiet on weekdays but a nice place to have a couple of pints.
the kings head is a greedy little faux foodie place with rude service. The mod bloke was always friendly. Don't know if he still works there.
Brewers is a nice pub.
Swan is the best pub in town by a country mile. Wish they sold better lagers but always great service, decent food and no obligation to disappear after two pints.
pelham isn't a pub. Was once asked to leave my table because i wasn't eating and a couple who wanted food took priority.
Elly knows it's market and serves it well. Not my sort of place but always friendly.
Probably missed a few pubs out but basically we have a lot of places that sell beer but not many decdent boozers.
