Anyone know what happened to the Volunteer? Just walked by today and peeked in to see that the chavs are no longer. Now renovations. And while I am on the subject, why does the entire snowdrop now smell like a bog?

What are smokers gonna do in the winter when it's freezing outside? Will they be prepared to stand outside the pub 'avin a fag? I bet the fag butts on the pavements will be longer in the winter, than in the summer! Glad I don't smoke any more. I'd hate to av a fag in a blizzard.

They brought the smoking in public places law in here a couple of years ago (nz), a lot of the pubs revamped and built covered roofed, open sided smoking areas, or just little sheltered outside spots. Now, down the line, it's not an issue anymore, and after all the disgruntled smokers said the pubs would go underground (some people here have bars in their homes) or just under 'cos nobody would go anymore, things go on as normal except we don't stink after a night out anymore.

Although I am not a smoker, and am not fond of inhaling other peoples smoke, I reckon some pubs have lost (literally) an atmosphere that made the pub... a pub

Hadn't notice the Volly was being revamped - but I have to agree about the Snowdrop. Not surprising you can smell the "bogs", they're rank. Filthy, smelly & for ages the ladies had a scuzzy pot of liquid soap, with bits of crap floating in it, which you were meant to dip into - obviously because no-one could be bothered to tip it into the dispenser. Bleh.
