Your comment is disgraceful. Lewes is an enlightened town, where all should feel welcome. You are encouraging violence against people who do no harm to anyone.

Why not 'It'? If it is a term that I wish to be referred to as I have a right to use that term in exactly the same way that anyone would chose 'he', 'she' or 'they'.

Do we call you 'Hayley', or what? Once people struggled to change the world. Now they go in for this pathetic nonsense.

"Prefer" is one thing, however the issue is that a significant section of our society **demand** or want to demand (via discrimination, abuse, bullying, whatever) that others adhere to their own views about sexuality, gender identification, etc. despite the fact it has no impact on them.
If someone wants to be referred to as "they" what impact does it have on you, really? Using a pro-noun that they do not want is simply abuse.

Improving the rights of non-binary people may be not "world changing" for you, but I can ensure it can be for them. This is a group who have over history been subject to oppression and abuse for nothing more than a quirk of genetics.
I think it's important to stress that human sex is not binary. By no definition of human sex do all people fall into either a male or female category.

Your life is a sham
Till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck

It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a damn till you can shout out
I am what I am

I am, I am somebody
I am I do belong

I am, I am somebody
I am I do belong
I am, I am, useful
I am, I am true
I am, I am worthy
I am as good as you

I am, I am true
I am, I am worthy

So they only offer badges for boys, girls and call me by my name.
So the badges are made by normal people who only recognise 2 genders and those who are already acquainted.
I went there expecting to trigger some millennials and was met with a few normal badges on an unattended table.
Hooray for common sense.

'Someone' - 'they'. See the strange knots we get tied in? How do we differentiate between 'they' (for someone) and 'they' (for a number of someones)? I still prefer the struggle for a world that's fit for everyone to live in than the self-absorbed 'I want it my way and no other way or I'll be very offended'.
