Now I have nothing to do with Commercial Square, but I have always enjoyed their Proms each summer. It is something different in the variety of events in the town.
So why has someone felt it necessary to copy the event, with something that sounds very similar, at the Pells Pool? Seems to be a very unoriginal idea, and really against the spirit of how things have run for years.

Gotta love their cheap made by a 5 year old wooden signs adorning the Phoenix causeway. You'd have thought they might have put a little pride and effort into their advert, but no........

I've now researched the copycat event a little. It sounds like a very poor imitation, much smaller, in an inferior setting, far less musical variety, and no fireworks to conclude the night. I will be sticking with the original, and actually really hope that no-one thinks that the June night is the Bonfire event but in a different venue. Poor show.

Thanks lewes lady I was thinking the two might get mixed up , they are even using one of our tents for it , I wish they had of called it something else but it's free speech which is what bonfire is about I hope it works for them and doubt it will affect our event and look forward to seeing you there ,

Well, I know which one I'm going to go to - and it certainly isn't the one that's copying a well-established fixture in the summer's goings-ons.

I don't think there's any competition at all if you are referring to the classical proms at the Pells pool. Promenade concerts (ie, not seated) are a well established part of cultural life and I think CSBS event was probably inspired by the original Proms at the Albert Hall. I really don't think people will get confused by the two events and personally (as a CSBS member) I welcome more cultural events in the town. Sadly I won't be able to go to either...
