If you park at the priory at mo you will notice the machine is broken. You have to download and use the app which assumes you have a smart phone and Internet. Fees are chargeable from 9 am so if you arrive at 8 and use the app the clock starts ticking straight away and you won't get the full 8 hours you were expecting. This doesn't happen with a ticket. It's also more expensive with the app. How is that even allowed?

Can't you park at 8, go about your business and use the app at 9 ? Or is that too technical ?

Didn't know you could do that. Thanks. Would a ticket stand if you just said you don't have a phone?

Once set up these parking apps are really good. Pain the first time though, especially if you are in a hurry. Also I currently have three different ones to cover different parking providers. Being able to buy the ticket at a different time, as suggested, is a real boon. If you are unexpectedly late or have to stay away or something it is great to just click on some more time.

These apps are brilliant & highly recommended.
The option to extend if you are delayed (eg at the GP) is such an excellent idea.

say 30p for a ticket paid with coins then costs 70p via the app.

In other countries parking apps charge for the time actually parked (i.e. Click on arrival, click on leaving, pay for the time between). Why we in the UK are willing to accept solutions that still have us paying for longer than we park... God only knows.

This is probably the shape of things to come. More machines will be "out of order" and then the statistics will show that most people pay by app. There will then be a case put forward that the machines are redundant as hardly anybody pays cash.
