Power shower plumber plea

We have a power shower (I know they are a dreadful waste of water but it came with the house when we bought it). It is always going wrong (we've had to replace the pump) and now the water temperature control is playing up. I'd take the whole thing out but apparently, because our upstairs is right up in the eaves of the house (old cottage) we don't have enough height for an ordinary gravity shower to work. Does anyone know of a local plumber who understands these stupid things and can fix it for us before it drives us completely mad?!

Sounds like there are quality issues with your existing fittings, unless there're getting old. There's a lot of cheap kit on the market of questionable quality. The shower pumps I fit cost a couple of hundred quid, yet some are available for a lot less than a hundred. Guess which ones run quieter and last a lot longer. Buy cheap, buy twice.
In answer to your plea, if the shower valve is thermostatic then you almost certainly need a new cartridge. Unless it's a recognised make then you'll have difficulty identifying it. If it's a cheapy then it will be an uneconomic repair. Why don't you get in whoever replaced the pump?

What make is the shower?
If its an Aqualisa or another common one you can get the cartridges on eBay
You just have to get the colour code right.
It takes about 10 minutes to swap them over
Mind you if it is Aqualisa their telephone support is fantastic.
