I am getting really annoyed with having to dispose of all the junk mail that's being posted through my front door. I'm thinking of collecting for month and posting it back to them.

You can organise with the Royal Mail to have it stopped. Ask at the sorting office or google it.

I got totally fed up with receiving unwanted junk mail..
I banded all my junk mail together which amounted to quite a lot & posted it back to the Royal Mail. So they could sort it out and resend it out to the original sender. I haven't had any junk mail since then.
Apart from doing that I could of had a notice on my front door saying 'No Hawkers or Junk Mail' but I didn't really want to do that.
Anyway I suppose they got the message.

optout@royalmail.com. Mavis is correct, but got the thumbs down from several Postmen. You NEED a paper form, can't do it on line.
But read stopjunkmail.org.uk. Beforehand it will explain it all to you before hand as you obviously have a lack of common sense by asking the original question on here in the first place. Hope this helps. Postman know they are delivering junk, but are instructed to ignore all 'no junk mail' signs on your door. That will only slightly deter hand delivery from other sources.

The Royal Mail sell their services for delivering junk. If you stop them delivering it they also stop delivering the missives from the government and local authorities (like polling notices and council tax stuff). So they've got you by the short and curlies. Criminal I call it.

@Zebedee Rubbish, it works very well for us. Stops all the junk handouts, sofa, beds, DIY stores, supermarkets etc. Still get everything actually addressed to us. Our actual mail is now down to 3 or 4 real letters a day now. I was sick of re posting it back in the box. Now my blood pressures down and our Posties sack is lighter. They put a sticker on your pigeonhole in the sorting office, everyone should have one. Downside is they would lose a huge amount of revenue and the cost of postage would rocket, so maybe you'd better not do it !!

I get calls saying "Can we speak to the owner of the business?" They are obviously junk marketing; so I say "No." And walk away.
