I'm not quite as fussed, or angered by discussing politics, but this forum looks like its accepted politics, and also a neat compromise by webbo to optionally hide politics threads, as clearly users can't be trusted to overlook a thread they can't stand without resisting the temptation to get shouty and angry about it.
