Anyone but "Reliable plumber" who will read any paperwork you leave out whilst there and decide whether he is willing to work with you or not.
Not sure what company he owns/works for (as he's always declined to say), but maybe go with British Gas to make sure you avoid him.
It really wouldn't hurt to go through a company like Check-a-trade, as then you always have someone to complain to if you have issues with the work or anything else.

I think there is an issue with the secondary heat exchanger... hot water heats up then cuts out, then starts again..

I’ll ignore that dv !!!
Either blocked plate h/ex or primary or secondary thermistors. Replace both if one is faulty. 11,000 ohms when cold if you know your way around a multimeter
Thank me later

I'm assuming its a combi boiler ? And the hot water from the tap runs hot initially, then drops off to running cold, before running hot again ?

Pau Major picks and chooses his jobs in my experience. Stuart Geer is the smartest plumber I know but he also makes himself too much at home.

i am trying to have a tap repaired or replaced at Lewes flea market. A fairly simple job, I would imagine, for a plumber. I have rung so many without success. Is there something about plumbing or plumbers i don't understand?

I used Southern Energy Solutions, they were not the cheapest but came out and fixed my boiler within a few hours of contacting them.
